The Loose Doorknobs
Just a few days ago, I closed the doors to the Be Love Give Love Community Oasis.
Not Be Love Give Love.
Just that chapter.
I’ve been reflecting a lot since then.
Looking back over everything this season held…
I realize God wasn’t only working through me.
He was working in me.
There were places in my own heart I couldn’t see before.
One of them was how easily I over-gave.
Not because anyone expected me to.
Not because anyone asked me to.
It simply flowed from my heart.
Loving people has always come naturally to me.
Encouraging people.
Helping people.
Giving.
For a long time, I didn’t realize there was a difference between being generous… and over-giving.
It happened so gradually that I couldn’t see it.
Until, little by little, God opened my eyes.
Not with guilt.
Not with shame.
Just with gentle awareness.
As this chapter…this door…came to a close, I found myself deeply grateful.
Not only for what God had done through this season…
But for what He had done in me.
Then something unexpected happened.
The doorknob in my little oasis at home became loose.
A few days later, our front doorknob literally fell off.
Then, while away, staying in Black Mountain, the doorknob on my bedroom door was loose too.
I tightened the first one without thinking much about it.
Then the second.
Until the third.
Three loose doorknobs.
Three different doors.
One chapter…one door…had just come to a close.
After tightening the third one, I paused and suddenly realized…
God had been doing the same thing in my heart all along.
Gently tightening the loose places in my heart that I didn’t even realize had become loose.
The places where I give my time.
My energy.
My resources..
My heart.
Not so I would become less generous.
But so my generosity could flow from a place that is more grounded…
More intentional…
More aligned.
